Latest Commissioned Pieces

Oh man, do I love to create, especially if it's for other people that have better use for my artwork rather than gathering dust in piles under my bed. Here's a peak at some of the pieces that I have had the pleasure of making these past couple of months, paired with some of my ramblings as usual.

DYLAN THOMAS FOR ALEX

These two pieces in conjunction are derived from a poem written by Dylan Thomas. The former in black is the penultimate line while the latter in white are the final words. Sizing is your standard 8.5 x 11 inches, and the concept of the splatters as well as the circle shape of the phrasing were requested specifications.

This was such a fun piece to do because it was the first time that I got to play with creating two parts of a whole. Moreover, I really enjoyed making this because I love the fact that the piece in its entirety is unified despite the individual parts being diametrically opposed.

TOTUS TUUS FOR MIKE

This next one holds a lot of firsts. It was my first large-scale commission, as well as the first piece that I got free reign over the design. All I was given was the size, what phrase to paint, and an idea of where it was going to be hung up. As mentioned, this was quite a big piece. Sizing was 27.5 x 19.6 inches. As for the words, the phrase itself is a prayer that translates to:

"I belong entirely to You, and all that I have is Yours. I take You for my all. O Mary, give me your heart"

With regards to its new home, I was told that it would hang above a tank (one of the coolest, in my opinion) so I knew that I wanted to incorporate water somehow. This leads us to one of the key features worth noting on this piece: the waves. I used a combination of ripped magazine strips in various blues and mod-podged them on to the poster-board. After it all dried, I went over using a white pen to add the details.

Having complete creative control was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. Thankfully in the end, the risks I took paid off and Mike was happy with the final result.

Hope you all enjoyed having a peak at some of the latest commissions I created. If you want your own piece, feel free to contact us to discuss, or go straight on ahead and make an order.

Stay gold,

Kimberly
